Instructions
Some contributors on the FAFSA are required to obtain a verification of non-filing document from their tax authority. This may apply to you if you:
- Did not file taxes in 2023 (and were not required to); AND
- You would have filed taxes with a tax authority other than the US Internal Revenue Service; AND
- You are listed on the 2025-26 FAFSA as one of the following types of contributor:
- A parent of a dependent student
- An independent student
- An independent student's spouse
A verification of non-filing document should be generated by the relevant tax authority and confirm that the contributor did not file taxes. The document would need to be dated on or after October 1, 2024 in order to be acceptable documentation of non-filing status.
If you have attempted to acquire this documentation and have been unable to do so, you may submit the following form in order to request an exemption to this requirement.
